Lenten Small Groups Offer an Opportunity to Meet New People

by Brady and Becky Fuller

Lenten groups meet for four weeks, beginning the second week of March, through to Easter. Here are reflections from two of last year's groups:

Beacon Hill

1 Thess 4:14:

“For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again…”

We have attended a Lenten small group for the last two years just so we could meet more people at Bethany. Last year, the verse above took on new meaning as we were privileged to join a Lenten group including Bethany attendees Greg & Delia Edmeades. This couple had come to Seattle for Delia to receive a bone marrow transplant and found Bethany as their church home during their months in Seattle. Our Lenten group experienced a metaphor of Christ’s death and resurrection through Delia’s Good Friday transplant and her following recovery to new life. Praise the Lord for His great miracle in her and for His own resurrection.

North Ballard
Linda Cutshall's weekly home group invited guests to join them during Lent. This forum allowed opportunity for a couple who each worship at separate churches on Sundays to participate in Bible study and fellowship together. Another woman, who Lisa Hudson and Linda had befriended at their elementary school, wanted to learn about Christ and, during her experience with the Lenten group, prayed for the first time. This woman has continued following her interest in Christ by participating with the Cutshall/ Hudson home group and in Alpha.

Lenten small groups can provide a way to include new people in existing studies or to have opportunity to join a study to meet others at Bethany. More details about specific times and places will be available soon.

Sign up for a group after Sunday services in the Lobby Feb 19, Feb 26, and March 5. Contact: Becky Fuller (709-2517) or Catherine Purdy (762-2699).
