Meeting My Sponsored Child
Laurel Mackintosh
I remember seeing Margaret for the first time, in person, on our first mission trip to Kenya in June os 2004. World Vision had asked all of the families of sponsored children to bring them to a school yard in the Soweto slum where they live. Many walked for hours just to get there...
Small Groups
Kelly Pearson, Elder of Group Life
God has always worked in my life through small groups. I remember the first small group Bible study I participated in in middle school. I loved the way our adult leader led us in searching the Bible for truth...
Loving a Neighbor / Janet Moore, Social Services Coordinator and Director of W ND

A Soaking Fleece / Jill Bell
About 10 years ago, God called me to the ministry of healing prayer in a way I couldn't deny, though I've spent the last 10 years trying to avoid it. During a women's Bible study, I had my hands raised in praise as we sang and began to feel an unaccountable tingling in them. I lowered my hands, but the tingling didn't go away as we continued to sing. Through my mind flashed the words, "I'm giving you the gift of healing."
Good Shepherd Balcony Window Repair
Steve Jones, Elder for Administration
Repairs were recently completed on the sanctuary's "Good Shepherd" stained glass window located above the balcony. The window was given by William Fisher (1873-1952) in memory of his wife, Eva D. Fisher (1868-1951), and was dedicated in 1954...

Wednesday Night Dinner: Thanksgiving
In the fall, Wednesday Night Dinner gives raincoats and toiletries to our dinner guests. If you have a spare, clean, warm raincoat or items such as travel size soaps, shampoos, razors and toothbrushes to donate, please contact Janet Moore at janetvm@bethanypc.org. These are a holiday tradition that our WND guests look forward to each year.

Have You Not Heard?
Experiencing Scripture in the Oral Tradition
Sundays, 10:45 am in the Parlor
October dates include: Oct 8, 15, 22
Someone famous once wrote, "Words written are dead words." Many generations of our biblical ancestors believed and obeyed and worshipped God without a script. For them, the Word of God came by way of oral tradition. It was spoken with the lips, and listened to with the ears.
All are invited to this interactive encounter with the spoken word of Scripture. Each week we will follow theological threads and listen for thematic echoes, as we wind our way through the Torah, Prophets, Wisdom Literature, Gospels, Epistles and Revelation. Themes include "Creation," "Theophanies," "The Holy Spirit" and "Meals." Each session stands on its own and will include listening to a speaker read through a number of biblical passages, followed by a time of reflection and response.
Led by John Chase (284-2222, ext 18 or johnc@bethanypc.org).

Read Good Books Discussion
12:15 pm Sun, Oct 15 in the Parlor
Our book is Blood Done Sign My Name, by Timothy B. Tyson. Tyson is a professor of African American Studies at Wisconsin (Madison), and the book title comes from an old Negro spiritual.
The story is a true one from 1970. In a small town in North Carolina (where Tyson was an 11-year-old boy), a young black man is murdered by a white father and two sons, who are then acquitted by an all-white jury...in a county that is 2/3 African American.
Tyson's father was a socially conscious Methodist pastor in the town at the time. The combination of insight into the racially-charged 60's, Tyson's own story, his father's convictions and the repercussions for today are extremely powerful.
