reflectionOpportunities for Reflection & Prayer During Holy Week
Martin Luther once said that prayer is "climbing up to the heart of God." During Lent we set aside time to find God's heart and bask in His presence. This year during Holy Week there are several opportunities for quiet reflection in the sanctuary.

Good to Great / Pastor Dan Baumgartner
Back in 2001 Jim Collins wrote a bestselling book on business that researched companies who moved from being "good" companies to "great" ones in their sustained business performance - hence the title Good to Great...

Lord, Teach Us To Pray / Linda Cutshall
prayerAs we prayed and planned for our retreat it became clear that God was inviting women of Bethany into a season of prayer. Psalm 51:15b-17 (The Message) opened our awareness of God's desire that we come to him just as we are, without any need to "get it right."...

To the Ends of the Earth / Lynne Faris Blessing
As you read this, Bethany has about 20 members who have either recently left or are preparing to take off soon to serve God in places all over the world. They all would greatly appreciate your prayers...

Mission Trips: A Students' Perspective/ interview with Melissa Newton Mora
youth missionLast summer the Bethany Youth Group spent 9 days in Tylertown, Mississippi to help with hurricane relief and establish relationships with the community at a local church called Holy Temple Ministries. We wrapped up our time by heading up to Jackson to talk with our friend John Perkins and work at his community center. This was our second trip to Mississippi and was an effort to continue our partnership with John Perkins and his ministry of racial reconciliation...

Families in Service - Summer 2007
We continue to watch God lead us in amazing ways as we put together a collage of opportunities this summer for families to serve others. Look through the list with your child(ren) and consider how you might participate in this wonderful ministry opportunity.

Narnia Update

The Sound and the Fury
Sun, April 22, 12:15 pm book discussion in the Parlor
William Faulkner was a Pulitzer prize-winning “southern” novelist bookin the United States who often wrote about his home state of Mississippi. The Sound and the Fury (1929) was Faulkner’s fourth novel and perhaps his best. It was Faulkner’s personal favorite, and one he called his “most splendid failure.” Teasing out the threads of human nature, faith and redemption is no easy task in Faulkner...but we’ll try together!

St GertrudeThe monastery of St. Gertrude provides a sacred space to connect with God through rest, beauty, silence, community and rhythm. The retreat is loosely structured, allowing you the freedom to explore various avenues of relating to God.

As a guest of the monastery, you are invited to participate in the daily rhythms of the sisters by observing silence, sharing home-made meals, participating in the Liturgy of the Hours and Holy Communion. It is a time for you to be refreshed from your normal routine and invited to a different rhythm of life.

Session Notes

Session met in the Bethany parlor on March 13th. We worshipped, prayed, sang, and even conducted some business.

The group prayed for the APNC (Associate Pastor Nominating Committee) as they are coming closer to making a selection for our Associate Pastor position.

Met with Bethanyite, Stephanie Pashby to learn about her application for volunteer mission service with OneDoor, a missions group of 19 to 30-year-olds serving in 21 countries around the world.

Leo Muller and Tara Taylor pointed us toward Christ, leading the group through the Holden Vespers. We then shared in the Lord's Supper.

Pastor Dan led Session in some discussion and exercises as the first part of a discernment process for future ministry direction.
