Scenes from the Narnia Performance

Behind the Scenes/ Josh Barwell
josh barwellI played Edmund during the two performances of the musical Narnia (based on C. S. Lewis’s The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe). Narnia was, overall, 55% fun and 45% work. Nearly all of the work part was in the practices. During the practices Narnia was fun at times, but it was annoying to do the same scenes over and over. Such is the life of an actor, I guess.

All of the work paid off, however. In the two shows we did make a handful of small mistakes, though never the same mistake twice, I noticed. The performances were mostly fun and a little work (in other words the two actual shows were the opposite of the practices).

I’m not saying that the practices were torture. They were just hard work. If anyone was wondering, my least favorite scene was the song Deep Magic. Don’t ask me why. My favorite scene was going to be the song Turkish Delight, because I was supposed to get real Turkish Delight to eat in the shows, but that never came through.

My favorite scene turned out to be the first time I entered Narnia. The shows were fun because we knew our lines, had a large audience, were using props, and we only had to do each scene once. Overall Narnia was a fun experience. I’m glad I was in it.

My Experience in Narnia/ Samara Barwell
Narnia was verySamara Barwell fun to be in. It was a little hard sometimes, but I had fun. We had practices twice a week for two months, and we had to practice the same scenes over and over again. I was a fox, a dryad, and a cruelie. I had to change costumes four times during the play, and once I was late getting on the stage because I wasn’t dressed in time!

Everyone had stage fright for the play. It is scary being in front of a lot of people. But it turned out okay. At the end when I took my bows I felt really happy because everyone was clapping so loud. I felt like we did a really good job. It was my favorite play. I hope more people want to do it next time! All the work paid off.
