Making a Place at Bethany

by Pastor Todd Holdridge and Sara Nagel

Remember hunting for your first “real” job? Searching for an apartment and roommates? Moving to a new town? Missing college friends?

Bethany is blessed to have a significant representation of both older and younger adults. And to see that this younger population is cared for, several folks at Bethany have gathered to develop a ministry for folks in their twenties.

After many prayer meetings, cups of coffee, & phone conversations, a ministry is taking shape. A Core Team of twenty-somethings meets monthly to pray, dream, plan and discuss the needs of this age group. And on the first Friday of every month, all Bethany young adults (post-college) are invited together to share a meal, enjoy fellowship, singing, conversation, prayer. The group has already had as many as twenty people, so it is becoming a great way for young adults to meet each other. Our goals are to help people grow closer to Christ, meet others & develop friendships, become more connected to the Bethany community, and discover & use their gifts in ministry.

Along with our monthly gatherings our Core Team has led us in assisting with the ByFor concert and serving at Wednesday Night Dinner. In the future we will enjoy a Mariner’s game, go to a Taproot play, go on a retreat, and look for ways to serve the community. Sara Nagel, one of the Core Team members says this, “Being a part [of this group] has greatly helped me to connect with others my age and become closer to God. Since moving to Seattle a year ago I have been amazed at how welcoming Bethany is and especially among the Young Adults group. I know others will find this to be a great opportunity.”
