One of the many great benefits about teaching the child development/children’s ministry class at SPU is that I meet some super students! This year was no exception, and two of those students will be working in our Children & Family Ministries this summer! Both will be serving in our summer Sunday school programs and VBS.
Whitney Broetje will also help us further develop our special needs ministry for the Fall and work in some of our children’s outreach programs. She will be with us July 13-September 21. Sarah Reed will help lead the “Journey with Joshua” Sunday morning experience for 1st-5 th graders and will be “Farmer Sarah,” leading the “morning gatherings” at the County Fair. She will be with us June 20-August 15. We are so blessed to have these committed and fun young women as role models for our children this summer! Read their “bio’s below”:
My name is Whitney Broetje. I was born and raised my entire life in the wonderful (and sunny) Yakima Valley; where a majority of my family lives. I am an only child, but love spending time with my mom and dad—Lois and Dave, and my many cousins, aunts, and uncles.
One of my passions is music; especially the piano. Another is people. I love talking to others and hearing about their lives. I love being busy and being outside—whether its playing croquet, enjoying a game of tennis, or fishing with my dad and uncles.
This fall I will be a senior at Seattle Pacific University where I am majoring in Psychology and taking a double minor in Sociology and Educational Ministry. The current plan is to become a family and child counselor, but we will see where God takes me!
My name is Sarah Reed. I just graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a major in Educational Ministry, and a minor in youth ministry and Christian scriptures. I grew up in Bellevue with my parents and two brothers. I love the outdoors and going for bike rides, playing soccer, and just having fun.
I am excited for this internship because of how much I will learn. I have worked with kids in a lot of different settings but never in a ministry setting like this. I‘m also excited to be working within the church. I have been a Young Life leader for three years. It has been a wonderful experience, but I’m eager to see how my role in ministry is different within the church setting. This internship is also just going to be a lot of fun!
