Prayer and Evangelism on Campus

mooreby Mae & Alex Moore, InterVarsity

As we've recently transitioned to working on a broader level with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship in the Inland Northwest, we have seen God moving in new ways on college campuses. We and our colleagues have heard God calling us to join Him in a movement of prayer & evangelism among students. Last March, students at 15 different schools joined together in a month of unbroken, 24-7 prayer for their campuses and classmates, and the movement is continuing this school year.

In October, students from 4 InterVarsity chapters in the Inland Northwest (WSU, EWU, Whitman College, U. of Idaho) gathered for a weekend of worship, prayer, and teaching on Jesus' good news. On Saturday night, they went in teams to the University of Idaho campus to share that good news in word and deed.

  • Some gave away free pancakes to party-goers in the Greek system.
  • Some cleaned toilets in a dorm.
  • Some set up a fake voting booth (in the rain) to engage students in conversation about God's love for all political lobbies.
  • Some even went to the local nightclub, where they listened to and prayed for needy students in costume.

In each scenario, other students stayed nearby and prayed for God's Spirit to guide the interactions that were taking place.

Alex has a team of four college students, one from each Inland NW campus, that he is mentoring this year in evangelism. They are planning to travel to EWU in January to help students there host an evening of free pizza and question-asking about the Bible and sexuality.

Please pray for these students who are listening to God and accepting His invitation to transform lives around them!
