Women's Am brunch: Praying the Scriptures

by Marisa Gronholz

I had the privilege of attending a friend’s baby shower recently. There was an overabundance of pastel-colored items, great food, warm drinks, the melodious sound of women’s laughter. It was a typical shower…until it wasn’t.

After the food had been finished and the gifts opened, the hostess passed each guest a piece of paper containing a scripture reference. I looked down and saw Psalm 139. I looked to the person next to me and saw a passage from Isaiah.

For the next half an hour, we prayed the scriptures. The familiar words of scripture came alive as we prayed them for this particular baby and the lives of those who would come around this baby. It was anything but typical.

The Bethany Women’s Ministry Team would like to invite the women of Bethany to a morning brunch devoted to this topic of praying the scriptures through the various seasons of our lives, particularly the seasons that are unique to us as women. We will have the opportunity to hear from women from all seasons of life about how they prayed the scriptures at various points along the way.

You can expect that it will be typical in many ways—there will be delicious food, warm tea and coffee, and definitely a lot of laughter—but, with the power of prayer, we hope it will be anything but typical.
