What If? / Kathy Cranston, MUPS

Children's Ministries
Secret Agents on the lookout...
...to discover what God is doing all over the world! That’s the theme of this year’s summer Sunday school! Each week in July our rising 1st-5th graders will be meeting at 9:20 am upstairs in room 202 to hear from various people who are coming or going from outreach experiences – both local and abroad.
All our children ages 2 and above will also have opportunities to bring their nickels, dimes and quarters and put them in our “pot” so that food (rice and beans) can be purchased for migrant families in the Skagit Valley. Watch the posters in the stairway to see how many bags of rice and beans your money has purchased!
Another way all our children (and the whole church family) can be involved in God’s work here on earth this summer is by bringing new or gently used books for pre-schoolers through 8th graders and depositing them in the CGA bin on the stairway. These will be shipped in the Fall to Christ Gift Academy in Mbito, Kenya.
Families in Service projects continue
In addition to the two projects mentioned above, there are also many other ways children and families can be involved in serving others this month. For more dates and events click on this brochure, or pick up a hard copy on the welcome table next time you are at church. The person to contact and their email address are listed by every event. We also encourage you to pick up the Family Devotional Guide for the summer.
Each week a different outreach partner is emphasized, and your family will learn more about this ministry and how to pray for the people involved. These are also on the web page, or may be picked up from the Welcome Table. Thank you to all who came to the “Kick Off” on June 7 and helped assemble 100 AIDS caregiver kits/refill bags, as well as to those who created beautifully encouraging cards for the caregivers!

Session Notes
On Tuesday, June 9, the Elders gathered in the Parlor for our monthly Session meeting. The meeting began in prayer and Todd Holdridge provided a short devotional. Todd talked about being a Christian in situations where you stand out because of your faith and pointed to guidance found in 1 Peter 1:13.
This was the first session meeting for several new elders, so Pastor Dan spent some time describing how we approach our work, and how to serve communion. Everyone in attendance spent a few minutes introducing themselves, and we prayed in small groups.
- Financial and Facilities Update – Dan Wickline.
Bethany’s finances are reasonably strong and the normal mid-year deficit is smaller than 2008.
- Session was updated on the probable major seismic update building project.
- Economic Tough Times and our Bethany Community—
Session reviewed resources like Acts 4:32, Deacons Fund, Financial Counseling & Prayer.
- Jan Beriault, President
- Jane Frissell, Vice President
- Chuck McFarland, Secretary
- Dan Wickline, Treasurer
The next Session meeting will be held on July 28.
