Introducing Our New Members!

by Linda Cutshall, Director of Congregational Care

In worship last month, we enjoyed receiving many people into membership — some new faces, and some familiar. Here’s a brief introduction to them:

Mary and Scott Douglas

Mary and Scott and their teenage daughters, Erica and Annie have worshipped at Bethany for years. Scott works as an architect and most recently Mary has worked in the field of human resources. Scott enjoys “spinning” for exercise while Mary is an avid reader. Both grew up in the Lutheran Church where Confirmation influenced their decision to follow Jesus. They met at the University of Oregon.

Dan Evans and Terri Johnston

Terri and Dan and their two teenage sons, Matthew and Luke, have been at Bethany for 5 years. Terri uses her business skills volunteering time working with Public Education advocacy. She’s part of an ongoing bible study. Dan works in environmental law and is especially excited about pursing faster, greener, smarter, sustainable methods that promote environmental stewardship. He and Tim Stelling are interested in knowing others at Bethany who’d like to join their “surfers” group.

Shena and Daniel Hands

Shena and Daniel came to Bethany during Lent 2009. Shena uses her MBA working in software marketing and would like to work for non-profits. Service is a big part of Shena’s life, beginning with serving the homeless while at Whitworth University. Daniel is an ordained Presbyterian Minister who works as a chaplain for Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.

Though Daniel can’t formally join Bethany (ordained pastors are members of the Presbytery), he and Shena look forward to being an active part of Bethany’s life and ministry.

Sprague Minger

Sprague made his decision to follow Jesus back in grade school. He’s been active at Bethany for 9 years. For a time he lived with other guys in Bethany’s intentional community house. Though he now lives in a condo these guys are still his best friends and have taught him how God works through the church community to meet needs.

Sprague has worked with our youth, college students, and young adults. He does contract work as a Graphic Designer.

Elisa and Caleb Mitchell

Elisa and Caleb both work as therapists in the field of eating disorders. Caleb went to seminary in St. Louis and Elisa graduated from Mars Hill in Seattle. Elisa and Caleb are expecting their first child and are anticipating God meeting them in becoming parents.

Christine Porter

Christine has been around Bethany for just over a year. She helps out with Children in Worship. Her 3 year old daughter, Molly, loves coming to Sunday School! Christine uses her legal experience volunteering with Union Gospel Mission. She also helps with childcare so that moms can attend classes at New Beginnings, a shelter for women affected by Domestic Violence. Christine is involved in a new young woman’s bible study.
