urbana '09

by Yasmin Ravard-Andresen

The hearts of InterVarsity students at the UW are making room for God’s purposes in the world. Twenty-two students from our fellowship returned from Urbana ‘09 considering their whole life as mission, and knowing that how they live now dictates how they will live later.

Fall quarter, Nathan, a freshman, joined us in prayer walking around campus. While praying for a dorm, he realized: "I'm in the dorms; other students are in the dorms. God must want to bring his kingdom in part through me while I am here." Steven and Sherrie, sophomores, had similar epiphanies in prayer and have just planted a new witnessing community (small group) in their dorm this winter. We are praying for another plant in the spring.

May has lived with Kate since coming to college and has never intentionally invited her to learn more about Jesus. This month, May and others courageously asked friends to come and see Jesus by studying John 1-4 one-on-one with them. We’re also surveying the dorms for new people who might want to come and see Jesus in Scripture as a group led by staff.

Other Urbana ‘09 delegates have dedicated two months, two years, and more of their lives to God’s purposes in the world. Tyler, a sophomore who gets really anxious about success and stability after college, is joining other UW students this summer on the Kolkata Global Urban Trek.

Please pray for us during this season of Epiphany as we courageously invite others on campus to see the light that shines in the darkness, especially leading up to a harvesting effort February 12-14, 2010.
