The Boss and the Bible / Pastor Dan Baumgartner
I’m definitely a fan, but not a full-fledged Bruce Springsteen junkie like some people I know. I’ve never seen him in concert, and only have a few of his songs on my iPod. Still, when I first heard the song called “The Rising” I was intrigued...
Seismic Upgrade for the Church / John Battle
As described in recent Briefs article and last month’s congregational meeting, Bethany has commenced the process of evaluating improvements to the Church structure to prevent injury to persons in and around the church in the event of an earthquake...
Wednesday Night Dinner / Dave Campbell
Listen to the stories of the powerless, tell them to the powerful - change the world. Last month my wife Debbie and I heard David O Relin, co-author of Three Cups of Tea, recommend listening to stories of the powerless and telling them to the powerful. That reminded me of what happens at WND...
Bethany Youth Package 4,000 Meals for Haiti
Rick Hudson and Scott Gronholz
One Friday a month the Middle School Youth Group comes together for a fun evening activity (game night, laser tag, broomball, etc). What? You haven’t heard of broomball? ...
Worship, Wonder and Whispers / Julia Sensenbrenner
Children and Worship. Godly Play. Do these words pose a contradiction in terms in your mind? Can young children really learn how to worship? Just how do you “play” with God? ...
Stephen Ministry: For Men Only / Bruce Devereaux, Stephen Minister
Why do men have to be lost before they’ll ask for driving directions? Can the same be asked about men seeking help for emotional, grief or other personal issues? ...
Why Turn To A Good Stephen Minister
When I Have Good Friends?
Linda Cutshall, Director of Congregational Care
Unlike the give and take of friendship, a Stephen Minister’s clear purpose is to listen to you and focus on your issues...
A Big Vision: Inter-Varsity Canada / Al Anderson
In Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship of Canada these days we are being galvanized around a singular vision/purpose/mission: To Launch 20,000 Extraordinary Leaders by the year 2020...

Holy Week for Children
Palm Processional
Children will begin their Holy Week by leading the congregation in worship through a Palm Processional at both morning services on March 28. Infants through 5 th graders are welcome…and parents accompany young children.
Maundy Thursday Service
Then on Thursday of that week, (April 1) there will be a Maundy Thursday service at 7:00 pm, and childcare is provided for up to 3-year-olds. We encourage older elementary children to attend this very visual service with their parents.
Easter Sunday
On Easter Sunday (April 4) we will have a glorious “Easter Celebration for children” at both 9 & 10:45 am services. We need extra volunteers for this big day. Please contact Dianne Ross if you’d like to assist with a group of children…(no prep or pre-experience needed).
Calling Elementary Age Children Who Like To Sing!
If you are a Bethany child in kindergarten through 5 th grade who likes to sing, you are encouraged to join KWS (Kids Who Sing). This children’s choir will meet from 4:30-5:10 pm beginning March 10, for the spring quarter with our wonderful organist Sylvia Oines and assistant Erica Barry, one of our new first grade Sunday School teachers and a gifted leader with children. The children will sing in worship several times this spring, and share their gifts with the people at Bayview on May 19. Parents are invited to a “parent meeting” during the first rehearsal on March 10. If interested, please let Sylvia Oines know at tsoines@earthlink.net.

Session Notes
The Elders gathered on February 9 for the monthly Session meeting. Cal and Annie Uomoto joined us and shared their recent struggle with Cal’s cancer. We had a rich time of prayer and anointing asking for God’s healing, wisdom and peace.
Bethany Online (CCB) is coming…so Pastor Todd spent some time demonstrating the features and benefits of this great new tool.
Pastor Dan led the group in an exercise of exegeting (or critically analyzing /interpreting) the Bruce Springsteen song, “The
Rising.” Once the group was warmed up on Springsteen we turned our attention to the story of the burning bush in Exodus.
Throughout the evening we were updated on:
- Mission Partner, New LifeCommunity
- Middle School youth group and their connections to Haiti
- The Bethany building project
- Love and Logic and Alpha classes
- Local Outreach
Larry Chen also pointed us to Jesus through reflection on our personal histories of faith.
