Family game night: April 30

scottby Scott Gronholz, Director for Youth Ministries

In November, the Middle School Youth Group hosted our first ever FAMILY game night. Typically we do a youth group game night once a month and we decided to turn one game night per quarter into one that was for whole families of middle school students.

The evening was a total success! We played some youth group classics like Dodge Ball and Scatter Ball (both games involve getting pelted by nurf balls!). What made the night extra fun was the fact that most of the parents got more into the games than some of their kids. Trust me- I have it on video. Dads were taking aim at their sons with youthful mischievousness and the kids responded with the same.

Going into the night I was worried that the students would be weirded out by having their parents at “their” game night. At the same time I was worried that the parents would have a hard time getting into some of our crazy games. As the night unfolded I quickly realized that I had no reason to be concerned.

On Friday, April 30 we’ll be having our second Family Game Night at the church from 7:00-9:00 pm. If the weather is nice we’ll most likely go outside for some kick-ball or ultimate Frisbee. Regardless of what we end up playing though, I’m excited for another evening of bonding with whole families here at Bethany and watching parents become kids for a few hours.
