Waiting / Kimberlee Conway Ireton
I had twins in July. Four months into this adventure, I am very, very tired. I am waiting—eagerly longing—for the day when the twins sleep through the night. Sometimes I get tired of waiting...
Lillian's Dilemma
anonymous
Bethany recently donated money to purchase a Piki Piki (lightweight motorcycle) for the orphan’s care department of Christ’s Gift Academy, in Mbita, Kenya. Before the vehicle could be driven, the department’s head, Lillian Omobori, needed to obtain a driver’s license...
Lessons from Wednesday Night

Wednesday Night Dinner is teaching and stretching me unexpected ways. This past year, I have been feeling the Holy Spirit’s tugs ever so clearly—and have been responding. That is a sentence I never imagined myself saying!...

Seismic Retrofit Update
Mike Christensen
The seismic retrofit is scheduled to begin in February or March, 2011, after we receive a permit from the City of Seattle. Please pray that the request moves smoothly through the proper channels. Here are several areas we are thinking about and acting upon in preparation for the start of work in the Sanctuary...
Holiday Magic / by Michelle McFarland
It’s hard to believe, but December is just about here…and that means that Bethany’s “Holiday Magic” is close at hand. Though Holiday Magic started as a neighborhood merchants’ event (and still remains so), Bethany has long participated with its own flavor of celebration. Both young and old, church-goers and non-church-goers gather on the lawn to count down to the lighting of the enormous tree, with a moment of scripture, prayer, and a carol. After that, the fellowship hall doors fling open, as folks are warmly greeted by smiling Bethany-ites and Christmas music. Folks from the community pour in to sip hot cider, visit with friends and neighbors, decorate cookies for the homeless, stuff stockings and make cards for our WND guests, create gorgeous advent wreaths, discover ways to honor God with good stewardship and by “giving” alternative Christmas gifts, sing carols in the sanctuary, and much more!
If you would be willing to volunteer for an hour or two that evening (or for a few projects prior), please contact Michelle McFarland. (Picture by Bob Harrington, 2008.)
Read Good Books
Kelly Langford
While we may ask ourselves, “What would Jesus do?”, and perhaps even have a pretty good idea of the answer, the harder question can be, “How would Jesus do it?” How do we put into practice Christlike actions and attitudes that can seem utterly impossible to achieve in our real lives? Does life-changing transformation through the work of the Spirit really happen?
Invitation to the Jesus Life: Experiments in Christlikeness, by Jan Johnson, considers seventeen characteristics of Jesus (e.g. authenticity, hospitality) and helps us learn how to integrate them into our daily lives through specific, concrete “experiments
in connecting with God.”
Join other Bethany folks at a “Read Good Books” discussion
of Invitation to the Jesus Life on January 23 at 12:15 pm in the Bethany parlor. This will prepare us for the February renewal weekend with Jan Johnson on the topic “Loving Your Difficult Neighbor.”

All 5th graders participating will meet for a “walk through” practice on Wednesday, December 22, from 10:30-11:30 am. We’ll begin in the lobby, preparing the candles for all Christmas Eve services (and we’ll end by taking a 5th grade tour of the tower, before the retrofit!
