Children's Ministries
Volunteer Appreciation Sunday!
Coffee, juice and lots of goodies are a small way of saying thank you to our many 9 am Children’s Ministry volunteers. On Sunday, January 16, the Sunday School Leadership Team and Nursery Team will host our volunteers (and their families) for a casual - but fun and tasty - “coffee” in the Parlor. If you are a buddy, a nursery volunteer, a teacher, an assistant, a strolling musician, or a dept. coordinator for the 9 am Sunday School or nursery ministry, please come and be appreciated!
“Return to the Rainforest”
During the Annual Meeting (Jan 30, 5:00-6:30 pm), the children will enjoy Rainforest activities with some great high school and college students. Even if your child didn’t attend Rainforest VBC back in July 2010, they will still enjoy the skits, singing, crafts and fun! Sign up on the Children’s Ministry bulletin board (1/3 of the way of the big staircase) to reserve a spot for you infant through 5th grader! Children ages 4 and above will begin in the Sanctuary with their families for the first 25 minutes of singing and testimonies, and then will be dismissed to the rainforest around 5:25 pm. Younger children will go to their rainforest habitats beginning at 4:55 pm.
First Sunday Gathering
Due to our special holiday schedule, our 9 am First Sunday Gathering (music and missions) for 1st-5th graders will take place on Sunday, January 9, this month. Children are to go to the Fellowship Hall after Children’s Time that day. Exception: First graders should report first to their classroom, then come together as a group to the Fellowship Hall.
Looking for Musical Experience “Directors”
This year (2011) is an every other year “musical” year in children’s ministries. With many interesting variables this year (including the Fellowship Hall becoming our sanctuary, many transitions, our past directors unable to be the leads), we are praying about a variation on the theme and having something perhaps a bit simpler. Many creative ideas are surfacing: a family talent show, Seeds of Faith concert, top hits from past musicals, a simple version of God’s to Ten, just to name a few! We also realize we need a person or two (co-directors) to be the lead/s. If you have a child age 4 or older and would like to learn more about stepping up to the plate, contact Dianne right away. The leadership team will be meeting on January 7 at 1:00 pm and would welcome your participation.
Session
The monthly Session Meeting took place on December 14 in the Parlor. There was a full agenda for this meeting including multiple items of church business, worship and fellowship.
After opening in prayer, Dianne Ross led the group in a devotional borrowed from Children in Worship, giving new perspective to approaching Christmas.
Jay Derr joined the meeting to fill the group in on what’s
happening in upcoming Presbytery meetings. There are Presbytery votes coming up in the first part of 2011 on the proposed Belhar Confession and changes to the Book of Order, including proposed governmental changes. Jay and Ganelle
Derr serve by consistently represent Bethany at the Presbytery meetings.
Dan Wickline and Janette Plunkett teamed up to update the group on the 2010 Budget as well as the 2011 proposed Budget and pledges.
John Battle, Greg Nelson and Dave Westburg joined the meeting and brought news to the group of the Seismic Retrofit including
the fund raising progress.
