BETHANY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SEATTLE WA

Welcome to Bethany

Inside the sanctuaryBethany is a Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation with about 600 people in worship each Sunday. The church, founded in 1888, is located just north of downtown Seattle, at the top of Queen Anne Hill.

Worship
Sunday services at 9 am and 10:45 am offer a blend of contemporary welcomeand traditional worship, with an emphasis on congregational participation and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. Worship is expressed in song, participatory and contemplative prayer, listening to God through the Scriptures and in Communion. Children’s programs for cradle through middle school are offered at 9 am, a children's worship hour and high school at 10:45, and the nursery is available at all Sunday services. Children are always welcome to participate with their parents in worship.

Community
Prayer after communionSupport and prayer for one other help us as we seek to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ. Community is fostered at fellowship events, retreats, age-specific ministries, and small groups.

Bethany is committed to sharing Christ's love in the community and around the world. More than 20 percent of the church budget goes to outreach ministries beyond Bethany. Many members are involved in local ministries—including Wednesday Night Dinners which bring together the congregation, the homeless, and the wider community.

are regularly incorporated into the life of the church:

The reformed/evangelical tradition shows itself in a high view of the authority of the Bible and the call to personal faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

The charismatic tradition can be seen in a desire to be attentive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and an openness to the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The holiness tradition is visible in a desire to be obedient and holy and to glorify God in all areas of life.

Social justice can be seen in involvement with the free Wednesday night dinners, along with a financial commitment to development ministries overseas.
.
The contemplative tradition shows itself in moments of silence in worship, quiet day retreats and a desire to make spaces to listen to God.

Leadership
Elders and deacons provide the spiritual leadership of the congregation. Of the elders, 18 men and women currently serve a three-year term on the church's governing body, known as Session, each coordinating a specific area of ministry. The 20 active deacons give a helping hand of service, providing caring ministries within and outside the congregation.
