Join us as we journey together toward Christmas
On this page, you will find ways to stay connected, serve, and celebrate during Advent season. More will be posted here as we go, so check back regularly! We can’t wait to join with our Bethany Family as we anticipate the coming of Christmas together!
Special Events – Mark Your Calendar:
- COCOA & CAROLS DURING HOLIDAY MAGIC
Friday, Dec. 3rd from 5:30-6:30pm, Bethany Front Lawn
Outreach is hosting a caroling session under the big tent to coincide with Holiday Magic on Queen Anne Avenue. If you enjoy singing carols or would like to help serve cocoa, then come join us! Meet in the fellowship hall at 5:00pm to run through a few songs or start cocoa set up. Contact Jenn Cavanaugh with any questions.
- ADVENT ON THE LAWN
Saturday, Dec. 4th from 2:00-4:00pm at Bethany
Drop by anytime between 2-4pm on the Bethany lawn. Come for hot drinks, snacks, and activities for kids! All are welcome; this is especially a great opportunity for parents of young children to get to fellowship while their children play and are occupied at fun stations. Contact Bianca Quezada with any questions.
- ADVENT RECEPTION
Sunday, Dec. 12th, 10:00-11:00am (between services)
Our annual Advent Reception will feature “sweet and savory” items already plated that can be taken with you outside to fellowship on the lawn. Congregants are invited to contribute “sweet and savory” treats from your family’s Christmas traditions – baked goods, crackers & cheese, fruit, gluten free options… be creative. Store purchased items are fine. Please bring your contributions to Bethany on Saturday, Dec. 11th, so that volunteers can prepare plates for our Advent Reception on Sunday.
Click on the form below to let us know you’re planning to bring something and/or volunteer to help with plating and set-up. Contact Julie Christensen with any questions.
- THE LONGEST NIGHT SERVICE
Tuesday, Dec. 21st at 7:00pm in the sanctuary and online
This service has a long history in the Christian tradition for being held on or around Winter Solstice. Everyone is welcome, especially those who may find this to be a difficult time of year. We will gather in the sanctuary and online to acknowledge the darkness of this season and, through song, scripture, readings, and prayer, we will name and reflect on some of our losses this year. We will hold these burdens together in the comfort of one another and God’s presence.
- CHRISTMAS EVE WORSHIP – Friday, Dec. 24th
Registration is now open – click here
–5th Grade-led Service: 4:00pm in the sanctuary & online
–Three Candlelight Services: 5:30pm, 7:00pm, 8:30pm in the sanctuary
Ways to Serve and Give this Season
This year, we are providing a few opportunities for you, your family, and/or small group to serve and give during this unique and challenging Christmas season.
Please prayerfully consider where God may be leading you to get involved:
- Wednesday Night Dinner Gift Cards
WND will be collecting $25 Safeway gift cards to give away at their Christmas Dinner. Cards can be left in the secure drop-box on the wall next to Pastor Doug’s office in 3 Howe, or mailed to the church office at 3 Howe Street, Seattle, WA 98109 designated c/o WND by December 21st.
- Donate to Seattle World School
SWS received a wonderful matching opportunity from GQG Partners! If you make your donation through this portal, GQG Partners will match your gift to Kandelia (up to $400 3x per donation), and your impact this holiday season goes even further. (Before you donate, please make sure to uncheck the box that says “split between all orgs” and select Kandelia.) Thank you for considering financially supporting the students and staff at SWS!
- New Horizons Wish List
New Horizons is in need of gently used blanket and warm coats as well as new socks and undergarments. All sizes needed. To find their Amazon Wish List click here. For more information, contact Marie Fritzberg.
- Tierra Nueva Project
Tierra Nueva is looking for some constructed-minded folks to help pull up some old carpeting in their church space. The project can be done in one day. For more information, contact Jenn Cavanaugh.
Daily Dispatch for Light Bearers
We’re switching things up a bit during this season of Advent – instead of daily devotionals, we will be sharing a variety of prompts for meditation and reflection, along with suggestions for simple ways to be light bearers to our communities during this time. These dispatches are inspired by the weekly themes of advent – Hope, Joy, Love, and Peace – and written by Bethany staff for daily delivery to your email box throughout Advent.
