SEATTLE WORLD SCHOOL is Seattle Public Schools’ culturally and linguistically diverse school for newcomer middle and high school students. It is one of only a few schools in the country designed as a preliminary entry point for refugee and immigrant children in their quest for academic achievement and full participation in American society. The focus is on English acquisition in a comprehensive curriculum. The school is at 1700 E. Union, in Seattle’s Central District. It serves the entire city of Seattle.
History of Bethany's Relationship with Seattle World School:
The relationship between Bethany Presbyterian Church and Seattle World School began in February of 2017, through two congregants who had worked and volunteered there for many years. As Bethany Presbyterian sensed God's call to seek additional opportunities to support refugees and immigrants, Seattle World School was right in our backyard. Bethany Presbyterian volunteers provide support to teachers and staff by working in the classroom, providing refreshments, teacher appreciation, an annual school supply drive, and providing mentoring and student support.
