Prayer Time: The Injustice of Sexual Assault This Sunday, 10:20am - 10:40am - 7 Howe 

Bethany family, 

Over the past few weeks, you may have read horrific accounts of sexual assaults occurring in communities across the country, including our own city. For some, these accounts carry the added weight of triggering their own story, or the story of someone you love deeply. 

If you carry the quiet, heavy weight of sexual assault, we as a church family want to say this to you first: You are believed. You are made in God’s image. And you are not alone.  Violence and sexual assault against another person is wrong and destructive. We lament the ways sexual assault has often been minimized by institutions of power and influence historically, including the larger church body. 

Recognizing the vital importance of our church speaking and responding to the injustices related to the sexual abuse and violence in our world, Bethany leaders have asked that our weekly prayer for our city, nation, and world focus this Sunday on issues of sexual violence, abuse, and trafficking. All are welcome to a time of focused intercession for safety and justice regarding these issues in 7 Howe from 10:20am to 10:40am.   If you are in need of resources for how to navigate the impact of sexual assault, some can be found here. The United States and Iran: A History of Conflict and Cooperation - October 25th  - This is the second class in the series, but you don't have to attend all to join us. From the 1953 coup to the Iranian Revolution, the hostage crisis, sanctions, and nuclear negotiations, this session explores the complex history between Iran and the United States and how that history influences current events.

Iran Today: War, Regional Tensions, and the Future -  November 8th A discussion of current conflicts and their regional implications, including the questions facing policymakers, religious communities, and ordinary citizens as events unfold.

Bethany Halloween Spectacular Saturday, October 31st, 3:00pm - 6:00pm - Fellowship Hall Bethany will have activities for kids, treats, and a drop-in concert for the whole family! We need volunteers to help make this a great event for the hundreds of families that come to Queen Anne Avenue to trick-or-treat at local businesses! Storytelling as a Holy Skill Saturday, October 31st,  9:00am - Noon -  Fellowship Hall

Story is central to our faith—Jesus taught in parables and we often share how God is at work via Stories Along the Way. But even a good story needs to be told well! Join us for Storytelling as a Holy Skill, a hands-on workshop open to all. We'll explore what brings a story to life, practice telling stories, and leave with specific tools to help us become excellent storytellers. This isn't about TV-polish, it's about practicing the skill of storytelling together, learning with and from each other as we grow in our ability to communicate effectively. Bethany Family Dinners Sunday, November 1st,  5:00pm - 7:00pm -  Various Homes

Bethany-ites of all ages will share a meal in various people’s homes. You can decide to host a dinner (with others helping to bring food) or attend a dinner. A few discussion questions will be provided, as will a few easy meal ideas. Dinner guest assignments will also be shared the week of the event. Bethany 101 is for anyone who wants to dive deeper into who we are at Bethany and how to get more connected. In an informal setting, participants will learn more about the goals and vision of Bethany, what it means to be Christian, and how to get connected in the life of the church. Mending Wings Retreat October 28th - 29th - Yakima - Sign - Up by Monday Oct. 27th

A group is taking a short trip to Yakima on Wednesday October 28th, observing the ministry, spending the night at a local hotel, and meeting with Mending Wings leaders on Thursday morning. Seattle Department of Transportation Proposed Paid Parking on Queen Anne Ave  

SDOT has made a recommendation to move to paid parking on Queen Anne Ave N. in front of Bethany and beyond. The Queen Anne chamber has opposed the changes, and some Session elders at Bethany have also voiced their opposition.
